Citrulline (CIT) is an amino acid involved in arginine (ARG) metabolism. It is named after the watermelon, Citrullis Vulgaris, from which it was first discovered. Citrulline binds the hydroxyl radical, protecting DNA and metabolic enzymes from oxidation. It is involved in nitrogen balance and muscle homeostasis. Citrulline can stimulate muscle protein synthesis and has become a popular nutritional supplement. Circulating citrulline is elevated in renal failure and decreased in intestinal failure (1).
This aptamer was selected by scientists at Base Pair Biotechnologies using proprietary methods and L-Citrulline [Sigma, Cat# C7629] as a target.
