Designations: NCI-H441 Organism: Homo sapiens (human) Tissue: lung, papillary adenocarcinoma Gender: male Morphology: epithelial Growth properties: adherent Depositors: A.F. Gazdar; J.D. Minna The NCI-H441 cell line was derived by A.F. Gazdar, M. Brower and D. Carney and associates in 1982 from the pericardial fluid of a patient with papillary adenocarcinoma of the lung. The cell line expresses mRNA and protein of the major surfactant apoprotein (SP-A). Electron microscopy shows multilamellar bodies and cytoplasmic structures resembling clara cell granules. The line has been used as a transfection host for expression of pulmonary surfactant protein (SP-B).

| NCI-H441 Cell Avalanche™ Transfection Reagent (human lung carcinoma cell) can also be used on the following cells with high transfection efficiencies. A549 Cell NCI-H292 Cell NCI-H460 Cell NCI-H1299 Cell NCI-H23 Cell NCI-H1975 Cell Calu-3 Cell NCI-H358 Cell 293 Cell Recommended protocols for these cells will be provided with the reagent. The protocols usually provide satisfactory transfection efficiency with invisible cytotoxicity. However, optimization may be needed for certain type of cells. Optimizations may include: the amount of DNA and this transfection reagent; cell density; transfection reagent/DNA ratio, or incubation time for the mixture of transfection reagent/DNA etc. For best transfection result, we recommend using the respective cell type/cell line specific Avalanche transfection reagents. Those reagents have been optimized on both recipes and protocols, and have been proved to have the best transfection results for the respective cell lines or primary cells.
